about mari
Founder Maricarmen Burgos was born and raised on the beaches of La Jolla, California. Maricarmen allowed her free spirit to play and explore, always in a bikini. She grew up frequently traveling all over the world to different beaches, and flying home to see her loving family in Colombia. But, no matter where she was, the beach is always her home. Growing up by the water has nurtured her love for swimwear.
With an entrepreneurial spirit and a love of style, she decided to pursue beauty and fashion, and graduated from FIDM in Los Angeles. Following her passion in swimwear, she founded Mari Brisa Swim. Her aspiration to create high quality swim and resort wear that is comfortable, unique, gorgeous and well fitted. Inspired by her Colombian heritage and California beaches, Mari is driven to create timeless and ethereal pieces, all handmade with love.

Mari Brisa Swim believes the beach is a sacred place. It’s crucial we protect and restore our oceans and lands because nature is everything to us. With the practice of mass consumption and fast fashion, the industry plays an integral part in our planet’s health.
Mari Brisa is a slow-fashion, conscientious entity. Everything we do is carefully weighed against its environmental impact. Our sustainable choices include selection of local materials, safe dyeing techniques, living wages, and compostable packaging. Taking pride in our efforts, we aim to reduce our carbon footprint, spread awareness, and promote slow fashion consumption. Utmost caution is considered in all our business decisions and practices.

When starting Mari Brisa Swim in 2023, my talented sample sewer, Patricia hand-made my initial design concepts. The pieces are exceptional in every way: fit, comfort, quality, and appeal. Carlos manages the operations and oversees and tracks the manufacturing process. Now, as the business grows, we have a fabulous group of local Colombian artisanal women to construct the hand-made pieces.
